As most of you know we were delighted to have homed 12 living eggs for the past few weeks...Well we're now pleased to say that, during the early hours of last Wednesday, 9 hatched! It was a shock and a pleasant surprise to walk in on the Wednesday morning to find 9 little baby chicks staring up at us. One of the three remaining eggs even hatched right in front of the children which was an amazing experience for both us and them. The remaining two hatched on Thursday and Friday. It was hit and miss with the final chick who got stuck in his egg. After a day he finally came out with a bit of shell stuck to him. With the guidance of the experts we gave him a little wash and put him in an incubator with another chick so he wasn't lonely, 'cause we all know chicks don't like to be alone. All chicks are now doing well and Kerry kindly gave them a temporary home over the weekend. They returned on Monday and already they have grown taller, their wings have got longer and they are eating lots of food! This Friday we say goodbye as they go to join lots of other chickens in their new home. But not to worry as the lady who's having them says she will keep us informed of how they are progressing.
